God Made Me Funky

Here's an interesting but rather long chat with DJ Supa D, Geeneus and Sarah from Rinse FM over on Martin Clark's blog in which he gives an overview of the ins and outs of the UK underground house scene as it goes into 2008.

To be honest I don't there should be that much of an
argument in what's labelled 'funky' and what's labelled house, it's a fine line at times but if you're still unsure about the difference then check out Circle (Tippa, Feva, Kismet & IC) every Monday on Rinse FM from 9-11pm (GMT) for the house (mostly deep and soulful) side of things and for a funky touch tune into DJ NG's show every Friday rom 7-9pm (GMT).

N.B "[After the interview, the issue of why there were so many white girls on the flyers. It was generally agreed that white girls were used because if they'd used black girls, stylistically it made the flyer look like it was for a bashment rave.]"

I don't really know how this quote makes sense. The majorty of house/funky events are populated with 90% of a black audience it seems a little pretentious to forget your core audience. Fair enough you wan't to attract a mixed crowd but there are other ways to express and go about it. It isn't like Collie Budz didn't have a big dancehall hit last year and he's white, as is David Rodigan. What's next? Bashment raves at Stratford Rex with Mr Hudson on the flyer. Tut Tut.

Oh yeah, check out my interview I did with Supa D in late 2006 right here.

Niice.
